The Fort Thomas Independent Schools has created a Task Force to invite our stakeholders to collaborate on the development of a district reopening plan for the fall. As we move forward, the group will continue to collaborate with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and NKY Health Department in order to consider the actionable steps that we can take to permit in-person instruction for Fall 2020. Guidance documents and available data will be reviewed in moving forward.  Our Task Force will be examining these results very closely.  As future updates become available, we will continue to provide information in a timely manner.

FTIS Revises 2020-2021 Calendar (08.10.20)  Link: Amended 2020-2021 Calendar

In response to Governor Beshear's recommendation to delay in-person instruction until September 28, 2020, our Board of Education has approved an amended school calendar for the 20-21 school year.  To reallocate planning days for teachers and staff, the first day of school is now Monday, August 31.  Students who selected in-person instruction will now begin with Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) on August 31. Students registered for the remote learning alternative also begin on August 31 with their remote learning programming.   Please review the amended calendar to reference dates that are now student attendance days (September 28, October 8, and November 2).  You will receive additional information from your schools.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

FTIS Statement:  Travel Advisory (07.29.20)

On July 20, 2020, the Governor’s Office issued a Travel Advisory recommending that anyone who has travelled to a state with substantial outbreaks of COVID-19 quarantine for 14 days upon their return home.  The Travel Advisory and the Governor’s recommendations are attached to this communication.   The Fort Thomas Independent School District strongly urges all persons who have travelled to any of the identified states in the Travel Advisory to follow the recommendation of the State Department of Public Health, and to self-quarantine for 14 days upon return home.  Further, the School District urges all such persons to self-monitor for symptoms consistent with COVID-19, and to seek medical attention immediately upon the first manifestation of symptoms.  Any person who reports to school or practices exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 shall be sent home and required to isolate or quarantine consistent with the recommendations and guidance of the local health department and/or the State Department of Public Health.

Advisory issued by the Kentucky DPH includes quarantine restrictions. (See,

Athletics and Activities Statement (06/09/20)

Fort Thomas Independent Schools will restart in-person athletics and activities on July 13, 2020, based on consideration of the Kentucky High School Athletics Association guidelines, the NKY Health Department guidelines, and Governor Beshear’s orders. Until that time, coaches will continue to communicate and meet virtually with their respective teams to prepare for their upcoming seasons.  All interactions during this time are voluntary for students, as to allow for families to partake in any planned vacations and/or commitments.
